Help Courtney stay housed & safe

My friend Courtney needs your help.

Courtney is an absolute badass - she's given her time, energy, testimonies, webinars and press conferences on behalf of so many causes over the years that I've known her. From profiling, to homelessness and housing, to immigrants' rights, Courtney's organized & fought for justice for so many communities over the years. She's a member of and active in CIO (Center For Intercultural Organizing), Sisters of The Road, WRAPP (Western Regional Advocacy Project), Housing Alliance, Human Rights Commission, Street Roots, and spent 10 years working with Bridgetown Ministries' Night Strike, just to name a few.

And now she needs our help.

Courtney was told she has a 60 day no-cause eviction notice. She was never served, and she has to be out of her apartment by the end of March with less than a week to prepare. This is, as you know, illegal, since the law just changed to require to 90 days' notice. She is working on an extension of that timeline, but might not get it, and is afraid that her landlords may just retaliate and lock her out. HUD has suggested she find an attorney, since its come to their attention that the complex where she lives is targeting and displacing people with housing assistance & disabilities. Housing also may not pay her rent until there is a positive outcome or the eviction is rescinded.

On top of that, Courtney is still recovering from being hit by a car (while she was on her bike). She was seriously injured, which has made it impossible for her to work.

Finding a new apartment with an eviction on her record would make it extremely difficult to find a new apartment, ESPECIALLY in todays' market. She has only 90 days to find new housing to keep her rental assistance. In short, she needs to find a new place to live, quickly.

In the meantime, she'll be camping outdoors, and needs some supplies to make her spot livable. She'll also need to store her stuff.

Please contribute to help support Courtney's expenses over the next few months, so that she can find new housing. Donations will help support:

Short-term rental assistance
4-6 months' short-term storage fees
A bike (27-28") for transportation
Locks for her bike and for the storage unit
6 pallets, 2x4s, and plywood for a tent platform while she camps at Hazelnut Grove
Support for moving and living expenses during this transition

And, if you have access to any of the above and would like to donate it, please contact me at [email redacted]
