If you don’t see a book on the shelf you want to read, write it.

This short clip shows so much of what has given me a thread of hope to see the power of community coming together to nourish one another. Being so privileged to be part of the Richmond community and the Standing Rock movement, it is our diligence to carry that energy from what we learned into our local communities. We need to come together in every community to re-write our stories and provide medical and food sovereignty for our people.

Here in Richmond, there is a real disparity between community members with loss of housing, gentrification, and health care. We have been continuing to provide the community what it needs through medic collectives. There is one obstacle: a safe clinic space and funding for natural health care. When we first met at Standing Rock, we had just that when we did great work together to give the community just what it needed and we had access to every donation we could dream of thanks to you.

There was such beauty in being welcomed into an indigenous-lead movement  integrating cultures helped me understand my privilege and how to share it. .

Financial Plans: WE HAVE 6 WEEKS TO RAISE THIS MONEY! EEEEEK!

Bus Cost $45k
Production Cost: $4k
GoFundMe Fees: 2.9%  + $0.30 / donation

Logistics:

-Use the Bus starting with 1 weekly location for the houseless providing general care with herbalists without   borders and other feeding programs.
-from there, I plan to expand my business from weekly check ins to more often as I continue to see the pu   blic at 25% sliding scale

-Check on seasonal wellness issues and provide the means to prevent emergency room visits or chronic
diseases from worsening.

-Educate and empower by integrating all medicines.

-Consistency and committing healthcare into the community is key in order to grow a movement.  We hope to design this so that anyone can duplicate this model and it will continue to grow.  A ripple and wave begins with a single drop.

Health Care accessibility has continued to decrease while the houseless and un-insured folk continue to
increase:

Garrett DG. The Business Case for Ending Homelessness: Having a Home Improves Health, Reduces Healthcare Utilization and Costs. American Health & Drug Benefits. 2012;5(1):17-19.

““The majority of homeless people lack health insurance, a public provision for healthcare, or a primary care physician2,3

Almost 33% of all visits to the emergency department are made by chronically homeless people. Emergency departments are not equipped to meet the psychosocial needs of homeless patients and do not have the capacity to assist them with housing, substance abuse treatment, or mental healthcare2,3

Homeless people visit the emergency department an average of 5 times annually, and the most frequent users visit them weekly. Each visit costs $3,700, amounting to $18,500 spent annually for the average user and up to $44,400 for the most frequent users2,3

According to Margot Kushel, MD, Associate Professor of Medicine, University of California, San Francisco, “Homeless people have higher rates of chronic health problems than the general or poverty population. This takes the form of higher rates of illnesses such as high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, lung diseases like asthma and chronic bronchitis, and HIV disease”4

80% of ER visits made by people struggling with homelessness are for illnesses that could have been addressed through preventive care

70% of Healthcare for the Homeless clients do not have health insurance. Moreover, approximately 14% of people treated by homeless healthcare programs are children under the age of 15.””
