World Pulse: Native Women Rising
Its an open forum for Native Women from Coast Salish Territory and Guests
Date: July 13th, 2017 Gathering for World Pulse; Native Women Rising in Cowichan.
Its a Culturally Appropriate Event, using a feather or talking stick to talk about the problems in policy or legislative acts and issues or experiences, that prevent them from accessing services that are productive for them in them to succeed in their daily lives.
There are many issues or problem area's and gaps that prove to be barriers that hinder their daily lives in which they will explain on their own.
Native women will have the opportunity to talk about culture, family, and what they experience, joys, failures, and successes and gaps within services; justice housing, health care, child & family services.
Cultural identity of Longhouse Women are ignored within policy and legislation of Canada causing financial strain on families and communities.
We seek to give voice to particpants in which they can talk about the importance of Native Women of Coast Salish Territory and cultural identity.
Patriarchy creates this hostile and uncaring social-economic environment for Native Women of Canada, because the cultural identity of native women go unrecognized and results are devestating for individuals, families, communities and nations.
The justice system of Canada is built on a triple jeapordy justice process which denies the right to Native Women because 1) she is a woman, 2) a woman of color 3) a woman of lower class and poverty
Native women are marginalized under the Indian Act of Canada; the longhouse women have struggled to survive under patriarchy which delivers a highly discriminatory process, ignoring their human rights within the structure of policies and justice!
The salmon peoples are living under foreign fishing laws and women will tell you how it impacts Native Women and the nation of longhouse women?
Native Women born into Matriarchy living under Patriarchal Laws of the Indian Act?
We seek to deliver the voice of native women, and their experiences within the framework of justice and real stories from the community! Culture and identity is important, but unacknowledged today. The Cowichan Indian sweater is an important part of our culture and part of the current economic world, yet they have become pushed out of the economic market by British Columbia and cheaper delivery by Non-Cowichan Knitters. There are many layers of discrimination and sexism and violence that hinders the lives of one group of sex, and one group of ethnic origin. Its important to deliver a forum to hear the Cowichan Women speak.
We will record, video-tape, and promote a culturally appropriate place for Native Women to speak about cultural identity, experiences, and problems or successes they experienced.
We seek your support for:
