Help send Jovani to NYC: Scholastics Gold Medal

Jovani Lomeli is a student artist that attends Miami Arts Charter School at Homestead in Homestead, FL. He has recently won a Gold Medal and the American Visions Medal for the nationally renowned Scholastic Art and Writing competition for his piece "Red Jacket" in the Photography category. This prestigious award is only given to the highest caliber of student artists in the nation, being a well known and valued honor to the recipient's school and community. Gold medal winners are invited and encouraged to attend a ceremony at Carnegie Hall in New York City in June of 2019. Following the ceremony, a gallery display of the students' work will be exhibited at Parsons School of Design and PRATT.  After their first stop in NYC, the art will continue to be displayed in the Art.Write.Now.2019 exhibit around the nation for the proceeding two years. Attending the ceremony and gallery of his art in New York would be an unforgettable experience for Jovani and his supportive mother, Sara Lomeli (and hopefully his art teacher Gussie Danches). We are raising money in order to make their trip to Carnegie Hall attainable. Funds will be used for travel and living expenses while attending this honorary event. It has always been his dream to travel to New York City and experience the life of an artist. This rare and dignified award has been a dream of Jovani's since his art career began, and to be able to be recognized by such respected artists in New York City would be remarkable for him and his school.

This is his first opportunity to be a part of a national art awards ceremony. It has always been his dream to travel to New York City and experience the life of an artist.

According to the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, Nearly 340,000 works of art and writing were submitted to the 2019 Scholastic Awards. Jovani’s work was selected by some of the foremost leaders in the visual and literary arts for excellence in originality, technical skill, and the emergence of a personal voice or vision. Receiving a National Medal places Jovani within the top 1% of all the submissions.

While at the festivities Jovani will meet the 1% of students across the country that were awarded gold medals. Jovani will be able to participate in the Art.Write.Now.2019 National Exhibition at Parsons School of Design at The New School and Pratt Institute’s Pratt Manhattan Gallery, Maker Prom!, AICAD Reception, National Ceremony at Carnegie Hall, Benefit Dinner, and Student Showcase and Closing Reception.
