Here is our story:
NASA United is a non-profit youth soccer organization established in 1995 to provide a recreational outlet for children in NJ. Over the years, we have been fortunate enough to be able to donate to charities in Paterson and other surrounding towns in NJ. We are now looking to extend our outreach programs to organizations both locally and abroad.
We recently made a trip to San Juan, Puerto Rico to assist with the hurricane relief efforts. Immediately after arriving, we visited two orphanages; La Casa Cuna and Casa de Niños. The wonderful staff at both orphanages welcomed us with open arms and spoke with us about their missions. To our sorrow, we were informed most of the children arrive there at birth. Most often, many of them don’t have family members and grow up in the facilities their entire lives. This was incredibly heartbreaking and left us with the desire to do more. Luckily we were able to give both orphanages our donations of soccer jerseys, clothing and other supplies. This may have only helped a little but it is only the beginning, we intend on returning with more gifts in the near future.
The experience in Puerto Rico made us realize the amount of work required to make a difference in these organizations. Although the staffs we visited are doing incredible work, much more assistance is needed. They are always in need of supplies and usually have an even bigger need for funds. With a new motivation to help orphanages, we have decided to take our efforts to South America. Our first stop will be in São Paulo, Brazil, with the donations going to two orphanages for children ages 2-15.
We are raising money in order to take soccer jerseys, clothes, gifts and other supplies to nearly 75 orphans. These children don’t ask for much; so many of them only want to please and would love just a little of our attention. We believe that with the help of our friends and family, we can achieve our goal of donating these gifts to the neediest children. We hope to make delivery by the first weekend of January on Three Kings Day! It will undoubtedly bring a huge smile to their faces and give them hope for a Happy New Year! We ask for your kindness in donating to our cause. The more we receive, the more we can give. 100% of the collected donations will go to the orphanages. All donations all welcome, no amount is too small.
