Dear friends,
I am reaching out to you with the hope we can join together to provide support for local families that are deeply affected by the aftermath devastation of Hurricane Irma.
These are hardworking families that live pay check to pay check and have no options on employment with no electricity. Many are still without power. These wonderful folks our part of our community - from friends that work at Capital Grill, Skillets, to assistants and more.
These are proud folks who would be embarrassed if I'd list their names and would never ask for a handout.
Aside from being uprooted from their homes, many families will lose at least a months wages - least of all having to cover the cost to replace food, shelter, cars etc. Most rent their homes and will struggle to cover rent and/or meet any deductible expenses as well.
Families living in Immokalee have literally lost their homes and once the shelter closes will truly struggle to rebuild.
I plan on using these funds to provide direct financial support to local families and I'm hoping you can join me and help give help where hope is lost.
I continue to be humbled by lives challenges this year. None of us were prepared for the devastation of Hurricane Irma. (And of course, I'm not forgetting to recognize the devastation that Harvey caused, but I'm being very specific with my efforts about wanting to help some of our local families). I know there are tremendous fundraising efforts on TV and/or with local non profits, but I really wanted to eliminate any overhead fees and get the monies in the direct hands of those that need it most.
I know how very blessed my family is - we can afford to replace, rebuild and restore - but I won't sit back and do nothing - I need to rally friends to help those who need help.
I made a vow when I was young and a poor single mother since finishing college that when - not if -- when my world was good, I would always be committed to helping others.
In addition to donating $5000, my family will also pay any fees that this site charges so that your donation is a 100% donation. ANd we will match all funds raised up to 10k. Allowing us to help even more families.
I will share the names and details of who is getting the funds.
I plan to distribute the money immediately. If we surpass my fundraising goal, I'll make sure it gets in the right hands with full transparency of families we've helped.
I believe God puts us exactly where we are meant to be ----and with the people we are meant to be with.
We are meant to join together and show these families we love and support our own.
This is our moment to shine.
