Napa/Sonoma 1st Responders/Victims

$19,971 of $25,000 goal

Raised by 202 people in 13 months
Created October 12, 2017
My name is Lizette Jaeger Bell and I was born/raised in the Napa Valley and currently live and work in the area.

Many I have spoken with have expressed interest in wanting to help the victims and first responders of these horrible Napa/Sonoma fires (the worst fire in California and potentially US history).

For first responders and victims, gift cards have been purchased to help them buy whatever they may need while they are displaced from their homes. As the fires subside and first responders return to their homes, I will be focusing more on donating to victims of the fire.

Any donation whether it's large or small is appreciated — $5 can go a long way!

Thank you for your help!

Thank you all for your support so far! I/we are thrilled to be at $15k+ within just a few days! Your generosity is incredible and has brought many first responders, victims and volunteers to tears (myself included). The community of people coming together to help others during this horrific tragedy is incredibly strong and I/we can't thank you enough for not just your monetary donations, but for spreading the word about the fund and your thoughts/prayers. We have numerous states, countries and continents participating in this fund at this time – a global community of donors!

I would like to take a moment to also thank a few local policemen for helping me get to areas that are inaccessible to the general public, enabling me/us to reach the most affected first responders and victims. I am passing out gift cards one by one to ensure that they are #1 - directly given to those who need it most and #2 - given to as many people as possible to provide the maximum amount of support to as many people as possible.

So far, I/we have passed out gift cards on multiple occasions to both first responders and victims of the fires. First responder beneficiaries have included some of the ~10,000 men and women fighting the fire from all over California, Oregon, Arizona, Nebraska, Illinois, & beyond (Pennsylvania and Australia have even sent crews). Victims have included individuals who have both lost their homes and those who have been displaced from their homes by the fires (evacuees, etc.). It was reported yesterday by CNN that ~100,000 people have been displaced by this fire complex to date and ~6,000 structures destroyed.

First responders have been so incredibly grateful to have the flexibility to use the gift cards to buy what they need/forgot when they left their home towns so quickly to help out our community. During my gift card drops so far, firefighters have shared several items they intend to purchase with their gifts. After working for 4 days straight, one firefighter’s eyes were burning and she had no eye drops- she was going to head to Target to buy some with her gift card. Another firefighter said that he and a few of his strike team members did not bring blankets or pillows with them when they left home. Another forgot to bring underwear. Another did not have feminine hygiene products. Others said they had not had a hot meal in days. These are just a few examples of the type of support your money is providing.

Victims have also been overwhelmed by your support. Hearing about the losses that families have endured is heart breaking. The support given by all of you is going towards a tank of gas for one family who lost their home to help get them out of the area to another one of their relative’s home. Others are helping families get by during a time when they aren’t able to earn their typical hourly wages due to their workplace being closed/burned down. Others are a small stepping stone towards helping them begin to rebuild their lives after losing everything.

This fund is not conclusive now/once the goal is reached. I am choosing to continually buy/distribute gift cards as the donations roll in to ensure people are getting them ASAP. I will continue to collect donations over the coming weeks. Your support (whether it be monetary or spreading the word) is incredibly appreciated. I will also be collecting thank you cards for our first responders should you wish to contribute with hand written notes of thanks/inspiration to go along with the gift cards. Please email me at LizetteGoFundMe@gmail.com if this is something you are interested in. I have also had others ask about donating funds with personal checks or cash/venmo which is 100% ok as well. Please email me if you wish to donate that way. Others have also reached out to me asking me to help them distribute gift cards which they have purchased already - I am also happy to help out with that as well.

Again, thank you for your continued generosity and I look forward to sharing more stories in the coming days/weeks!

Best,

Lizette
