To my dear friends, fans, family, and folks I hope to meet someday,
My name is Naomi LaViolette, and I'm an independent songwriter in Portland, Oregon.
What I've learned as a songwriter, is that our lives are full of amazing stories, and that using music is one of the most magical ways to tell those stories. Melody, rhythm, and harmony, intertwined with words, poetry and metaphor captures and preserves stories and people beyond our memories.
Over the last few years I've been so blessed by writing songs for specific people and projects. I call these "Song Commissions". Many of these songs were given by other people to their loved ones as birthday and anniversary gifts. Some of them are inspired by dear people in my own life, that either passed away, made my heart swell with love, or filled me with gratitude.
This precious collection of songs is being combined into a full-length record. It will be called "Written For You", and is due for release in Fall 2017.
What's involved in producing a record? Oh my. A lot. Recording studio costs, hiring musicians, CD artwork, duplication... to name a few things. Some incredible Portland strings and percussion players will be brought on board to create an epic, organic, and emotional expression of the stories present in these songs.
Why does this mean so much to me? These people and the music that captures them needs to shared. We all have our own little bit of time on this world, and every person's story is a gift. This record will be very special. I will be so thankful for any support.
