This campaign is for my sister, Nancy Niego Collins, her husband of 15 years, Dan Collins, and her four children Danny (14), Aidan (12), Claire (10), and Katie (7). On April 8, 2015, Nancy, who had never been sick a day in her life, had her world turned upside down when she was diagnosed with a glioblastoma brain tumor.
Nancy has been fighting every day since, has endured 2 brain surgeries, multiple seizures and still is continuing to fight to allow her as much time here with her family. She is blessed to be in the Chicago area where she was under the care of the top neurosurgeons and oncologists. Unfortunately, her medical team has done everything they can and the tumor is back.
The outpouring of support for Nancy has been overwhelming. The most common question everyone asks is - “How can we help?”. This GoFundMe campaign is a way you can help. Consider a donation of any size. With the amount of people who care about Nancy and her family, we can all make a significant contribution.
Nancy’s biggest fear is not being here for the kids. This led to an idea: What if we could create a GoFundMe campaign which would provide funds for the children’s education and serve as a reminder of Nancy’s legacy in their lives. Also, allowing to take a little bit of the financial pressure from Dan so he can focus on the kids.
Nancy is an incredible person. She grew up in a loving family, the 7th child in a family of 8 children. Nancy was an amazing athlete and was the runner-up to the player of the year for basketball in Chicago. Nancy earned a nursing degree from Lewis University where she also played basketball. Nancy’s ultimate calling is being a mother.
Nancy and her family have been supported over the last 13 months by incredible neighbors and friends who have provided endless meals, help with the kids and being a strong support for Dan. Many others ask how they can help, continuing your many prayers for Nancy and thinking about giving to this education fund.
