Nadine Howard Battles Lung Cancer

On February 23rd my mother, Nadine Howard, was admitted to the hospital because she was coughing up blood. We thought it was just pneumonia. An x-ray revealed a mass in her left lung about 1.4 inches in diameter that was obstructing her airway. They also saw pneumonia.
She was scheduled for an immediate broncoscopy with biopsy which is a procedure in which a bronchoscope is inserted through the nose or mouth to collect several pieces of lung tissue for testing. She was then released with antibiotics to recover at home.

An appointment was scheduled for 3/2/17. The results were in. It just so happened to be my son's birthday. He was so concerned for his grandmother that he would not begin to celebrate his day until he knew that she would be okay.

With great care, her doctor went on to tell us that she had Lung Cancer. We were numb. We still are to a certain extent. You can never fully prepare for a diagnosis such as this. I think her heart was more broken over the fact that we had to hear this news on his special day more than the actual delivery of the news of this unwanted disease.

My mother is the most giving person that I know. She never asks for anything and she's not asking now. I am asking on her behalf.  Even now she doesn't want to be a burden.

To me, she is no burden. She's my mom. I can't give her the gift of life, but I would like to at least, with your help, give her a chance to live out the rest of the life she has with the hope of being cancer free.

As you can imagine, doctor bills are starting to pile up. Her team of doctors are so very supportive and are ready to help my mother on this monstrous journey.

Here's why your donation would be helpful.

Dr. Screff, her pulmonary doctor, can not even begin to treat her because we don't know where or if the cancer has spread. We don't even know what stage her cancer has progressed to. As of 3/ 4/ 17 her doctor emphasized the need for a PET scan and MRI of the brain IMMEDIATELY.

My mother's fight can't even start until these scans are done. Each day that goes by without answers seems to drain us emotionally and the uncertainty is heartbreaking.

Right now we are lost.
