Hurricane Relief Fund -Hart Family

As many of you may know,  Hurricane Irma slammed into the coast of Florida this past weekend.  Unfortunately for many residents   the damage was catastrophic.  This hurricane has hit home with me figuratively and literally.

My immediate family all reside in Florida. Being a 1,000 miles away from the storm's aftermath causes me much worry and anxiety.  My parents Stephen and Yvonne Hart reside in High Springs, FL .  They purchased a house in High Springs back in 2009 as a breath of fresh air ! Both of them had finally retired, from the Syracuse City School District where they each taught for 30 + years.  It was my father's dream to own a property in which he could take in rescue horses as well as other animals.
My father's passion before becoming a teacher was working with animals.  He greatly enjoyed working at The Burnet Park Zoo in Syracuse, NY.  My father is someone I will always look up to as a role model because of his compassion and his ability to go above and beyond the task at hand .  Anyone that has the pleasure of knowing him will tell you how big a heart he really has. He would without hesitation give the shirt off his back to anyone in need.

My mother started out as an art teacher and then served most of her tenure at Salem Hyde Elementary in Syracuse NY teaching 3rd grade.  She was known for her cast iron "reading tub" in her classroom. She has continued sharing her creativity and love of teaching as a Sunday School teacher in High Springs. My mother is an extremely thoughtful person and goes out of her way to personalize or make things special for others. She delights in naming new animals on the "farm" and sharing stories of their escapades.

Both my mother and father mean the world to me , in my mind they are invincible. When I saw hurricane Irma approaching I thought in my head.  " Oh they will be fine, they don't live on the coast ".

Thursday morning, I woke up to numerous text messages telling me that my worst nightmare was true...The Sante Fe River had overflowed because of all the rain and storm surge received from hurricane Irma. This unprecedented amount of water started pouring onto their property and within hours the water had risen above their bed. My parent's who's house is not even in a flood zone, were faced with the nightmare of having to evacuate in the rapidly rising water. Everything that my parents owned is now underwater and their many animals were stranded and had to be rescued. As of right now their house is surrounded with 4+ feet of water .  Luckily, both of my parents were able to make it out in time and that's what is most important.

This hurricane has devastated my family , for the first time in my life the people I look up to most are griefstricken and at a loss for what to do next. I wish that a simple hug could make things better, but in this case that is not possible.  Being a 1,000 miles away from them now, fills me with frustration and rather than wringing my hands, I am going to use every tool at my disposal to help them and make my father proud.
The rebuilding process of my parent's home (and also the homes of their many animals) will be long and painful for my family but at the end of the day it will all be worth it .
So I am asking anyone and everyone if my parents or my family have had an impact on your life at one point or another or if you are looking to help a family in need, please donate to help the HART family anything will help... we are down but not out , thank you all very much.

   Love you all,
Kyle & Family
