Gun Safety - SH Half Marathon

Hello My People!
I'm Bianca Johnson and I am a Mom who lives in Dobbs Ferry, NY. Most of you know that there are several things I do well: rage, write, and run.
In addition to joining Enough Dobbs Ferry and marching at the March for Life on March 24th and also with Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America over the Brooklyn Bridge on June 2nd, I've decided to run the Sleepy Hollow Half Marathon on March 24th to raise funds for several non-profit organizations, which are working towards gun safety solutions. The half marathon is taking place on the morning of the March for Life. After showering (obviously), I will be going straight from the half to the march. What a way to celebrate running 13.1 miles AND raising money to move the gun debate foward!
I can no longer deal with the following cycle: 1) News breaks; 2) The death count rises; 3) We learn facts about the shooter; 4) We learn heartbreaking facts about the victims; 5) Politicians offer Thoughts and Prayers, while simultaneously collecting NRA donations; 6) We become numb, and; 7) Repeat. When did we become accustomed to children being murdered at school? NO MORE.
If lawn darts can be banned due to one death, if Tide pods can be locked up at grocery stores nationwide in a week, there is absolutely no reason that we cannot implement reasonable gun safety solutions.
Your donations will be evenly divided between the following six (6) organizations:
1) Everytown for Gun Safety
2) Sandy Hook Promise
3) Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America
4) The Brady Campaign
5) Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence
6) Coalition to Stop Gun Violence
Why these 6 organizations? Because they are at the forefront of fighting for better gun safety laws, but even more importantly, because I have a 6-year old son in kindergarten, and every morning when I put him on the bus, I can't help but feel fear, and every afternoon that I pick him up, I am grateful that he made it through the day and is still a happy, sweet guy , untainted by the fear that I go through, knowing that a school shooting can happen anywhere, anytime. Our kids (and parents!) shouldn't have to live like this!
After the Sleepy Hollow half marathon, whatever I have raised, will be split 6 ways and 6 online donations will be made to the 6 non-profits I listed above. And why 6 organizations? Because my son is 6 and so I've chosen to donate to 6 organizations in honor of each year that he's been part of my little family.
Thank you for reading this far. No donation is too small (or too big) - I'll be thinking of all my supporters for 13.1 miles.
