New Scout Hut

Hi there!

We at 1st Grundisburgh are looking to raise some money towards building a new scout hut. In 1963 a building in the village was transported to the Grundisburgh Playing Field and since then it has been the Headquarters for all our Scouting adventures and activities up to the present date. It is rather outdated, as can be seen in the picture below.

Our current hut would be more adequately described as a shed, with boarded up windows, wooden walls and no insulation. There is not enough space for large activities and in wet weather we are confined to one small room.

During winter, it has often been said that it would be warmer outside than inside the hut, and this obviously makes attending what should be fun scout meetings into cold and uncomfortable sessions. Our new HQ would be insulated with an effective heating system, this would make meetings far more enjoayable for everyone.

We have had to board up windows due to security measures. This means that we have no access to natural light within the hall and it feels very dark and enclosed.

Another issue with the hut is accessibility, we currently have no road access to the hut, and it can only be reached after a long walk accross a muddy playing field, which makes it very difficult for disabled members to be able to join in.

The money raised will be put towards the building of our new HQ, making it more accessible so we can enrich the lives of many more of our community.

Thank you very much! Any donations will be gratefully received.

Bel Batchelor, Lucy Haste and Ruth Turnbull are all parents whose children are benefitting from time spent at 1st Grundisburgh Scouts. On Sunday 17th April they are running all 26.2 miles of the Brighton marathon and hope to raise money for the Scouts and for Cancer Research.

They have been training hard for the last six months and have jointly clocked up over 1,000 miles on Grundisburgh area roads since January alone! Their longest training run was running home to the village from Aldeburgh (20 miles).

If you are able to sponsor them via this site they would be very grateful.
