Mykytyn Family
Spende geschützt
Our hearts go out to the family of Roman Mykytyn - our collaborator and friend at Original Productions for over 11 years. Roman’s wife, Courtney Everts Mykytyn, was an extraordinary individual who was an amazing mother and education advocate.
Courtney was suddenly and tragically taken from us on December 30 after she was struck by a car while standing near her Highland Park home. She was only 46.
In addition to her passion for her family, Courtney was also a passionate educational advocate and the founder of the non-profit organization, Integrated Schools. Her efforts started as a Los Angeles mom who was troubled by the state of her neighborhood schools. Courtney mobilized a local and then national effort that challenged white parents like herself to integrate schools assertively — and then resist the urge to take over.
Courtney left high school without a diploma but went on to earn a doctorate, engaged in the painstaking work of winning over one parent at a time, while also finding a way to partner with other constituencies. Integrated Schools survived on her boundless volunteer efforts and those of other volunteers who’ve opened 19 chapters across the country. Former Los Angeles school board President Steve Zimmer said of Courtney, “More than anyone else in L.A. over the past decade, Courtney moved parents from ‘I’d like to send my kid to my neighborhood school, but ...’ to ‘I am sending my kid to my neighborhood public school.’ ”
Besides her husband Roman, Courtney is survived by two children who attend local public schools; her mother, J. Paulette Westphal, and her brother, Christof Ian Everts.
Our hearts are broken for our friends, and we share in their grief. This unexpected tragedy will take time to heal and we want to be there for our friends and this beloved member of our community. We are creating this page to honor Courtney’s memory and to gather donations to make sure that we take care of the Mykytyn family as much as we are able. Funds raised will go directly to the Mykytyn family for their immediate needs and for their son and daughter’s college education fund.
Here are some amazing articles that highlight her extraordinary life.
