My sister Laura lives in South Africa and has cancer. She desperately needs your help!
Here is her story…..
Hi, my name is Laura and I was diagnosed three years ago with Multiple Myeloma, a type of bone marrow cancer.
You never think that the dreadful C-word will happen to you. I went into shock and then severe depression.
My Medical Aid have refused to pay for a stem cell transplant, which is the best treatment available.
To undergo this treatment is daunting enough, but to have to find approximately R500,000 to fund it is absolutely terrifying!
I am an Occupational Therapist, working for a non-profit organisation which cares for mentally disabled adults. I’m passionate about empowering marginalized people with new skills, so they can become confident, independent members of society. Some I’m able to place in work skills training programs and subsequently assist them in finding employment in a country like South Africa where jobs are scarce!
I have so much more to give back to the community in which I live and work, and will be able to continue to use my skills, if I can overcome this disease that, without the stem cell transplant, will slowly kill me!
I am scheduled to undergo the stem cell transplant in June 2019.
This is my only hope, so if anyone can assist me to pay for it, I will be forever grateful.
