Help Sadie Reach Nationals

Donation protected

I met my goal of 3,200...However, there is one more tournament I want to fight in. My funds are short for this tournament! You all have helped me already so much! I am picking up another job to help me try and reach this tournament. I think we can do it!!

For those who do not know me, my name is Sadie Roberts. I have been boxing since I was 16 years old, and I am now 28. Boxing has been a huge part of my life; it has shown me things about myself that I would have never known through any other sport. One of the many things it has showed me is that if I want to be the best I have to do the work, not only in the ring, but outside of it as well. I was raised by a single mother of five, so I always had to work for the things I wanted. I knew I wanted to box at the age of 8, but my mother could not afford it. As a result, I saved and saved until I turned 16 to buy my first car, so I could get to the boxing gym. I grabbed a pair of lost and found wrestling shoes from school and signed up to box.

I would often ride my bike after school from Hudson to the Cedar Bend Humane Society where I worked, and then I would ride my bike to the Boxing gym on the East side of Waterloo. After practice I would bike back home to Hudson.

To earn extra money I would often dive into the gas station dumpsters and ride along the ditches to collect pop cans and shove them in my gym bag during my 28 mile bike ride everyday. I would even pick up other side jobs during the weekend when their wasn't a boxing tournament, or I wasn't working at my other job. That way, I could save up the money I needed for gas, car repairs, boxing gear, or travel expenses.
I made those sacrifices because I wanted to be the best, and I knew missing practice meant that it would never happen.

I went on to win the 2007 National Championship at 101 pounds and was ranked #1 in the United States, and I made team USA. I earned a spot to the Pan Amerian Games in Ecuador with my lost and found wrestling shoes :) However, I had to backout due to a shoulder injury. I almost won another National in 2008, but lost by 1 point with 3 seconds remaining. I remained ranked in the top 4 for the following four years and even bumped up 12 pounds to compete for the Olympic Trials in 2011 for the London Games. Yet, I did not have the expenses to achieve that dream, until a great family stepped in to help me. I never would have the honor to say I participated in the Olympics trials had they not approached me and told me to go.

I have put off college and worked a lot of odd jobs that would work with my training schedule, so I could achieve the goal of being a 2x National Champion and becoming an Olympian. However, I have faced quite a bit of difficulty throughout the years including injuries, personal issues, and not being able to afford the time off from work, so I decided to go to school. Now that I am injury free, and will have time off of school this summer, I am able to go for my goal of being a 2x National Champion.

I never asked for help partially because of pride and because I am the type of person whom believes that if I want it I have to do the work! Everyone else in this world works for the things they want. However, there comes a time when pride must be set aside, and one must ask others for help. So, I am asking all of you who have taken the time to read this to help me achieve this goal before I hang up my gloves. This is my last year to compete, and with tuition, books, and other expenses, I am not able to pay for my own expenses to travel to competitions. I will be working a partime job this summer so that I can train extra hard, while saving for this goal.

I need help with hotel expenses, plane tickets, food, rental cars, and gas, for my coach and I. As well as a new pair of gloves, and tape with all the hard training that will be happening! Due to women having to pay for their own way to the Golden Gloves Nationals in Florida, anything you donate is helpful!! This money will also help me travel to other boxing shows in Arizona, Missouri, Tennessee, and many other areas.

I want to thank all of you for taking the time to read this, as well as contributing money to help me. This goal cannot happen without YOU! I look forward to bringing home a National Title because of your generosity! If anyone has questions, please contact me.

Again, Thank You all for your help!
