My Fight to Beat Pancreatic Cancer

Donation protected
Hi Everyone,

As some of you may already be aware I was diagnosed suddenly with Pancreatic Cancer in early April. I have been in hospital since the diagnosis awaiting testing and ensuring that my health did not deteriorate any further.

As you can imagine, being relatively healthy with the exception of acid reflux up until this diagnosis, the news has hit me and my family in a manner that no one can prepare for.

Currently the cancer in inoperable as it has grown to encompass some critical arteries that prevent surgical intervention. However, they are hopeful that with chemo-therapy the mass may shrink enough to allow for surgical removal. Currently the pancreatic mass also encompasses my spleen, several arteries and bundles of nerves in my back and abdomen.

If the chemo I successful and surgery is possible then the possibility of extending my life up to 5 years increases to about 27%. I am aiming for that success!!!

The prognosis if the chemo is not successful is about 3-12 months on average.

Although I have both provincial healthcare and work health benefits, coverages are very limited when it comes to home health care, and costs for most alternative therapy or alternative nerve pain medications are not covered.  The cost of in home medical nursing care is not fully covered as well. I currently require a feeding tube and additional medical assistance on a regular basis that will continue to be required once out of hospital until a few months after surgery.

As a result, I have decided to do something I historically have never been good at, I have decided to ask for help. It was recommended for me to start a go-fund me account in the hopes of being able to off-set and keep up with the costs associated with care that are not covered, while I go through Chemo for the next 3 months and then recover from what is described as extensive internal surgery to remove numerous organs if the chemo is successful.

As someone who si a very personally private person, who has spent his whole life caring for and fighting for everyone else, I have never been so humbled as to have to write such a personal story and hope that any assistance that anyone is able to offer would be greatly appreciated and accepted.  Please feel free to share this post on your Facebook to ensure that I haven't missed any friends I am trying to reach that may not be on my account.

With love, respect and admiration please help and join me in this fight.
