My fight against ALS
Donation protected
I'm on a mission to fight against ALS and I need your help!
My friend Gael lost her dad Bret to this terrible disease on October 25th, 2016. The exact cause of this disease is still unknown, nor is there a medicine to cure this disease.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimate that between 14.500 and 15.000 people in the United States (U.S.) had ALS in 2016, with around 5.000 people receiving a diagnosis annually. Worldwide, it is thought to affect between 2 and 5 people in every 100.000.
Most people with ALS will live for 3 to 5 years after first experiencing symptoms, but around 10 percent of patients will live for another 10 years or longer.
There is no cure, but treatment can relieve symptoms and improve quality of life.
Money for research is much needed!
On September 7th I'm going to swim 2 kilometer (which is about 1.24 mile) in open water for to raise money and awareness for ALS.
(It's 1 km upstream and 1 km downstream.)
I dedicate my Swim to the Black Family - especially to Bret- and hope you want to support me in my fight against ALS so that a cure for this disease can be found!
Thank you so much!
Marlies
