Solar bulbs for rural Puerto Rico

Hello, my name is Rafael Vazquez and I live in the eastern part of hurricane ravaged Puerto Rico. As I am writing this today, for me and my neighboring rural comunities it will be day 62 without electricity, in fact in order to post this page I had to drive approx. for an hour ,to a part of the capital of the island which is privileged to have some electricity and internet service.
Via my Facebook page I was able to gather donations, from friends and family of 38 solar lamps which this past sunday we delivered to the community of Punta Santiago in the eastern municipality of Humacao.
I requested the help of some friends and family members and we set out to visit this hard hit community, which was flooded by the nearby ocean due to the storm surge of hurricane Maria. It was very hard to see people who have lost it all, to the point where we made some lunches to hand out with the solar lights and people sat on the floors of their homes because nothing was left inside.
We noticed that these hard hit people were really appreciative of the food, bottled water and other basic items we managed to collect for them. But when we told them we had light bulbs which they could use to light up their homes at night, their reaction was of amazement and utter joy, giving way to hugs and them wishing blessings upon us.
I have participated as a volunteer in many activities in my life, but this past sunday, I could not describe to you how fulfilled me and my friends felt with the impact which we made to this community. Sadly our funds are limited, having many of us suffered many economic setbacks due to the aftermath of hurricane Maria.
We would like to continue with this project and it is therefore that we request your donation in order to bring some hope to the rural and off the beaten path communities of our Puerto Rico. Thank you so much.
