Help Dakota get her life back!

Dakota is my sweet ‘rescue mutt’, who came to us a year and a half ago through a chain of people after nobody wanted her; the “breeder” was going to shoot her! We had her spayed and treated for a major worm infestation. We also got her a ‘buddy’, another rescue dog who nobody wanted. She was an unfixed, untrained, mature black dog with a hernia that we fixed and treated.

Dakota and Mickey are my constant companions as I am home all the time in the country while my husband works. Because of serious health issues (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis), I am unable to work.  My dogs keep me going; they are like my children. I say I rescued them, but really it is the other way around.

I took them out for a run in the woods where we live and I lost track of Dakota for a few minutes. When she came back she was cut up and limping- I didn’t see her accident, but I believe she got caught in barbed wired… the one small section the previous tenant put up of course! I bandaged her cuts, but the limp wasn’t good. We had x-rays done and she has not only a dislocated hip but a broken femur as well. Our diagnostic visit cost $405 and the consultation with the orthopedic surgeon will cost $200. The surgery estimate (from our local veterinarian) is $4000 as a specialist will have to operate.

Dakota is only 2 years old this month. Prior to her injury she was a super athlete! She loved to run in the fields, tussle with Mickey, swim in the pond and follow me everywhere I went! She now has become depressed and is struggling with intense pain while being unable to use her injured leg at all.

I do not want my dog to have to suffer because of my inability to work. We are a one-income family and cannot afford any more. Please help Dakota get her life saving surgery and restore my beloved companion.
