Housing for Hurricane Victims

Tax deductible
This is an URGENT appeal to help house women and children rendered homeless by hurricane disasters. In order to secure a home for these families we must raise these funds by Wednesday, October 12, 2017 or we will have to turn away the most vulnerable and marginalized members of our country.  Our previous efforts have come up short and so we're making a final national appeal.  This is a national crisis that deserves national attention.

The aftermath of Hurricane Harvey left more than 30,000 people in Texas alone forced into temporary shelters and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) estimated 450,000 people have been affected directly and have no place to return to once the temporary shelters are closed. (This does not even include those impacted by Hurricanes Irma & Maria).

The Red Cross has contacted Muslimat Al Nisaa regarding our offer to shelter 15 – 25 residents once this exodus from those temporary sheltered must occur. Among the most vulnerable in the region are Houston's estimated 575,000 undocumented immigrants, the third largest population of unauthorized immigrants in the U.S. - which includes Muslim women and children.

The Property We Seek to Acquire

Muslimat Al-Nisaa houses homeless, often abused, Muslim women. We are forced to regularly turn away homeless sisters due to not having enough space. It is especially challenging for homeless mothers to stay with their sons. It is our dream to be able to offer a place to live for every homeless Muslim woman and her children. We have been blessed with an opportunity to purchase a second property below current market value. Acquiring this property would allow us to triple the numbers of those whom we can house nationwide. Canned goods, secondhand clothes, and Eid gifts are not enough, we need to come together to keep our most vulnerable sisters off the streets. Without space, we are forced to look Muslim women in the eyes and turn them away. We need $100,000 to acquire this property to house our sisters. We have been fighting homelessness since 1987, this is your invitation to stand with us in supporting OUR sisters.
