Gateway to Music and Arts is a 501c3 organization located in Maywood, Illinois; as an educational organization for elementary, middle and high school students who demonstrate an interest in music and arts. Students will receive instruction in music reading, writing, playing of musical instruments and performing arts.
Mission Statement is to enhance lives through music and arts, by creating opportunities to bridge the gap to higher education.
Due to drastic cuts in federal and state funding to after school music and arts programs, many underprivileged and impoverished students are now suffering from that decision. Resulting in more latch key kids, a higher dropout rate, increased crime and a higher mortality rate in our children.
Gateway has been addressing this issue, by teaching both music and dance to those students who desire to be a part of it, through learning, enhancing and embracing their raw and hidden talents.
Currently we are requesting $5,000 sponsorship for 20 underprivileged and deserving youth to attend our Music and Arts program. This program will be held June 12th – July 20th 2017 8:30am -3:00pm at the Quinn Community Center; cost is $250.00 a participant. Our organization presently serves 45 young people currently in our music and arts program. In this program, we will teach children how to play instruments, how to navigate through dance routines and rehearsals, and culminate with a final performance for the community.
The funds collected will be used to buy supplies, support and create college scholarship opportunities for deserving youth. By participating in the music and arts program, we can enhance the possibilities of students by inspiring them to be creative in a non-violent way. As well as keep music alive, the youth off the streets, and away from drugs and gangs.
