At 8:14 on Sunday morning, Portland Fire & Rescue responded to a call  at 4620 SW Beaverton Hillsdale Hwy.   When crews arrived, they reported heavy black smoke coming from the center section of the building.

This building is home to the Murray School of Irish Dance where Geraldine Murray has been teaching Irish Dance classes to hundreds of Portland area children and adults for over two decades.

The  damage to the building and studio are significant and leaves the school without a space to practice.  This is a crushing blow to Geraldine, her students, and the Irish dance community.

Any financial help you may provide could help the school reopen in a new location and will go to support the continuing education of elementary, middle school, and high school students as they strive to learn more about Irish culture and dance.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

The Good News/Bad News...

The Murray dancers are back on their toes! Last week we were able to resume classes in a new temporary space. Everyone is excited to be back to dance in our beautiful new temporary home! The search will continue for a permanent studio for our dancers, but its great to be back at it!

On a more disappointing note, we learned yesterday that the restoration service was unable to save our handmade, fragile performance costumes and they are a total loss. We've used these for St Patrick's Day, competitions and special performances for a decade, and this is a big setback. Replacing these costumes of will be a huge investment, on top of the costs of replacing our studio.

Lastly, please know that we are incredibly touched and grateful for your generous donations, social media shout-outs, kind words and thoughtful messages.

We have been working hard sorting through the rubble after Sunday’s devastating fire and it looks like we've lost all of our feis supplies and most likely all of the school’s performance costumes. The damage to the building is extensive but we are excited to restart classes tomorrow in our temporary space. It’s going to be a long road ahead to find a new space and replace all that was lost so we will still need lots of help. But if there could ever be a silver lining to this tragedy, it’s the incredible outpouring of support we have received from friends, family and the amazing Irish Dance community! Thanks to you all, near and far, we feel the love!!! ❤️☘️❤️☘️❤️
