We love this intersection mural!
We need your help to us preserve and expand it.
We are a group of families who envisioned and carried out the creation of the 26th and Olive Street Mural in Eugene, Oregon. The project took dozens of volunteers over many months of planning, culminating in an event where some 200 people came together to collectively paint this massive street mural in 2016. Intersection murals have so many wonderful benefits to neighborhoods: They bring beauty and identity to public spaces, improve safety and awareness, and best of all, they bring together communities to share an experience of creativity and connection.
We need your support to preserve this landmark!
We have an ambitious goal of creating an endowment to maintain the mural and multiply the community impact of this project. Funds will go to several synergistic efforts that will impact this neighborhood but also will have far-reaching effects across Eugene and to other communities.
Intersection murals are bold projects that disrupt the everyday driving experience of endlessly boring pavement. But this unique canvas puts paint to a true test of the elements and need relatively frequent restoration. We hope to hold a block party event every two years to repaint the mural and continue to grow this neighborhood into a more connected, resilient, beautiful and safe place to live. Is it worth it? For those who have experienced it, the answer is a resounding YES!
A growing impact
In summer 2018, we are now envisioning an even bigger project! We are making plans to bring the community together again to repaint the mural, install a Tiny Art Gallery, and install a living willow parklet on the vacant lot adjacent to the mural. These improvements hope to bring even more magic to this already special landmark.
The City of Eugene and many local businesses have generously supported the event, which will double as a Placemaking Fair for others to learn about how to develop kinds of projects, but we are still short of our goal for this year alone.
Help us save and multiply this budding investment in public art! Your contributions honor not just this neighborhood but a broader vision to build stronger, more beautiful places in other communities.
