Dawn 's last 100K for Muji and CAM

Edit: 21/06/19

With a very heavy heart i must tell you all that this walk has become a memory walk for Muji who didn't quite make it to her 100K.  I think she got to about 60km  (the app did something stupid at 50Km).  Muji died on 21st June.  She was doing ok, then suddenly overnight she lost the use of one leg.  Because of the severe arthritis in her other legs, and the effect this had had on her overall body conditioning she would have been unable to cope on only three legs so we had to say goodbye.  It happened at home, and one of the CAM nurses who had worked with Muji was here to help.   The walk has become more important to me because it is the only way i can say thank you to all of the CAM staff who helped Muji and i in the last year of her life.  They gave us the extra year.  So please help if you can...... what follows is why i was originally doing the walk,,,, but now it's for Muji. xx

March 2019

I said i'd never do it again and i meant it but i promised my friend Emma is would walk one with her for her 50th... then The Jurassic Coast broke me and shredded my feet... so i thought i would never do another... but i had promised... for her 50th!!!!

This year I am walking for CAM- Canine Arthritis Management.  Anyone who knows me knows that Muji, my 14 and half year old Samoyed owns my heart.  She has had arthritis since she was about 10 I think.  In the last year she has started to feel the effects of that a lot more and CAM has helped her and me so much.  Having an elderly dog is often heart wrenching.  You live in constant fear about the end, your life has to take the back seat so that you can look after your little furry pal.  You worry that you aren't doing enough, that they are in pain and not showing you.  It is 24 hours a day and it can be overwhelming.  CAM helped me with free advice about how to adapt our home and Muji's care so that she is able to live it to the full... the new full... for her.  Our first visit was to a free arthritis clinic with one of the CAM team - nurse Lynsey , we then had an appointment with a vet, who had all of Lynsey's notes and she was able to introduce new medications into Muj's management plan.  Muji was like a new dog for quite a while.... but arthritis and age isn't going to ever go the right way and things progress.... we started to have massage therapy sessions with Lynsey... but Muji is a fussy coat/ touch phobic little mare and made sessions impossibe! Anyway, we continue to liaise closely with her vets .. to make sure Muji lives out her days for as long as possible as well as possible.

CAM was set up by Hannah Capon, a vet from the practice we use.  She found that she was having to euthanise dogs early because of poor management of arthritis.  Can aims to educate owners and veterinary professionals about how to make the life of arthritic dogs better #yourdogmoreyears!  They provide many free online resources for owners of arthritic dogs and professionals.  There is a facebook group where you can often get advice and support ... free of charge... from members of the CAM team and other owners.

The CAM team all work on this project voluntarily and it costs about £2000 a month to run it and keep it independent.  It is funded by selling merchandise, running workshops and training and donations... so I decided who better to walk this flipping walk again for...

So this year... I will be walking 100km from Eastbourne to Arundel on August 31st.... finishing sometime on Sept 1st.  I won't lie - i think its going to be hard this year, i don't know how i will motivate myself if i dont raise money so i'm raising money one last time too.   I hope to do it blister free this year because the thought of another walk like last year makes my stomach turn, I got a blister in town the other day and honestly i almost cried from the memories.   It would be nice to do it in the 24 hours... but i don't think my crappy knees will let me.  Muji will also be walking 100km.... but don't panic... she will be doing it in tiny little walks between now and then... i will just log her daily walks and see how far she gets....

So please sponsor Muji and I as our thank you to the CAM Team for this brilliant service.
