Launch Opus Concert Theatre

Opus Concert Theatre is a newly formed arts organization in Columbia Maryland, serving Howard County and the surrounding community. We intend to perform concerts and semi-staged productions of great operas and musicals, too many of which are overlooked by larger companies. Our ticket prices will be reasonable, and we will include an educational element to all of our productions.
Our productions will be done with orchestra. We intend to support the avocational as well as professional (and semi-professional) musicians in our community.
Our inaugural production of Dido and Aeneas will be performed at Slayton House in Columbia on Friday, April 8th and Saturday, April 9th at 7:30 p.m.
We are incorporated as a 501c3 non-profit organization and can provide a tax reciept to any donor who provides us with the necessary information.
The $7,000 we seek to raise will not only help us launch Dido, but also provide the core funding that will allow us to move foward with our remaining 2016 season. Under consideration now are Gershwin's "Of Thee I Sing" (a perfect political satire for the upcoming election) and Menotti's "Amahl and the Night Visitors" (a wonderful Christmas story).
The volunteer board (each member of which has contributed funds to this launch) has a wide variety of experience in the arts as musicians, conductors, singers, composers, producers, directors, actors, etc. But this is not another gig...it has sprung from our passion to to bring the arts into our community , to support our fellow artists, to expand the audience for great music by creating an accessible arts experience and to bring to life great gems of music that are too often overlooked by companies that have to stick with the very limited "tried and true" repertory to cover thier huge overheads.
The energy we put forth will cause ripples for years to come - through the new found passion of someone who discovers great music and "gets it" for the first time - through a young musician who gains the experience and encouragement they need to persevere and through the flourishing of inspiration music that can so deeply resonate in the soul.
We will be eternally grateful for you support.
