Hello!
I have been accepted by Climate Generation to go and attend the meetings and sessions at the conference. Climate Generation is recognized as an interested party by the UN and is sending me as an Educational Ambassador. As an educator, being an advocate and a part of these talks is something I would always hope to be a part of. I will be blogging and skyping with my students during the conference week. I will be in daily contact with supporters over email during the conference (I hope to make videos and include photos as well, but we will have to see how that goes…)
I am an 8th grade Earth Science teacher. One of the topics that I teach every year is climate change. I look forward and dread teaching that unit at the same time. My students learn the evidence and scale of the problem. We learn that, while individual actions can add up, the problem is so large that it requires governments to act.
This is my chance to show my students how advocates can be a part of the solution, to connect them to an important international event, and to be a small part in the solution. This conference is probably our last chance to head off the worst consequences of climate change and, hopefully, a historic turning point from the inaction of the past. I consider this a once- in-a-lifetime opportunity to be a part of the solution.
I am raising money to offset the cost of this trip. I am responsible for travel, food, and the cost of the conference. Climate Generation estimates that it may cost between $2500 and $3500 total. I am hoping to fundraise this amount since, as a teacher, I absolutely cannot afford this myself.
Please consider supporting me in attending this conference.
Thank you.
What are the goals and why is this conference important?
