MoyaMoya Support Fund

As many of you have seen, our daughter Mackenzie was diagnosed with a rare brain disease called MoyaMoya. She had to undergo surgery to treat this in October and I can tell you that today she is doing remarkably well. She has returned back to life as she once knew it with school and work. She is now a licensed driver and is working to get herself back on the soccer field for the Fall.

During Mackenzie's treatments at Boston Children's Hospital we were able to learn a great deal about this disease. With all of her symptoms and testimony from other MoyaMoya patients, this lead my wife Shayna to have testing done due to similar symptoms she had been dealing with since she was a child. She had an MRI as well as an MRA performed. We were able to provide these scans to the Boston Children's Hospital Neurology team for them to review. They confirmed that she in fact has the MoyaMoya disease as well. One day while at work, she had a medical episode as a result of this disease and she was brought to Elliott Hospital in Manchester NH. After talking with the Dr and Neurologist, they ordered her to be transported to Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. The Nero team at BWH analyzed her scans, performed another MRI and Angiogram and made the determination that she is to have surgery first thing in the morning (10/27/17).

Shayna was out of work for two months for recovery. Once back to work she still dealt with the same symptoms she had been having prior to her first surgery. In January she had a follow-up appointment with her Neurosurgeon and he made the decision to get her in for a second surgery but this time on the right side of her brain. Her second surgery was February 26th and was much more involving than the first. Although her recovery was better than the first surgery we felt it best that she stay out of work longer than the first surgery just to be sure. She was out of work until May 1st where she went back part time.

It has been a long and difficult road not just financially but mentally, physically and emotionally as well.

This GoFundMe account is to help offset the loss of income as Shayna's job does not offer any sick or vacation time. With missing so much time during Mackenzie's surgery/recovery and with her own surgeries/recovery she missed a great deal of time.

Any donation is greatly appreciated.

Thank you
