Hello friends and others!
My beautiful best friend and sidekick Mowgli recently sustained a serious injury that has left her unable to walk. Preliminary x-rays show an oblique complete fracture on her left hind foot. Due to fracture displacement, where parts of the bone break has shifted from its original position, she faces a high risk of complications and impairment for the rest of her life if left to heal on its own. In addition, a temporary split or cast would only further discomfort by adding pressure to the damaged foot.
Because of this, she is in immediate need of surgery to repair the break before the bones become further displaced. If this were to happen, she is at risk of amputation.
Her injury requires internal fixation using surgically applied devices such such as pins, screws, and/or plates implanted inside the bone or on the surface of the bone.
For this procedure, I have been quoted around €1500 up front. This does not including aftercare and follow-up, which will likely cost upwards of €2000.
Anyone who knows Mowgli knows that she is a highly active dog who lives for running around and playing fetch at the park. The recommended amount of exercise for her breed is 90 minutes a day. Her recently immobility has left her extremely listless and depressed.
Mowgli means the entire world to me and is beloved by many. As a therapy dog, she is accustomed to accompanying me to work everyday and helping to alleviate symptoms of anxiety and depression in myself and others. She has helped me in many ways and now she is in urgent need of help. As a researcher on a PhD salary, I am unable to afford her vet bills on my own and I am forced to ask for financial support.
