Save Brita's Family Farm by Christmas!

We are trying to help our friend raise enough money for a down payment and other home buying costs. We have to raise another $7,000 by Christmas (December 25th) or else she will lose everything. Please help us with a donation and by sharing this fundraiser. Every dollar and every share really and truly helps!

Here’s the background:

Our dear friend Brita was a teacher, herbalist, and farmer in the Sacramento Valley for over thirty years. She taught anthropology at a small community college while running The Queen’s Ranch from her rented home, a farm on several acres with organic vegetable, fruit, and herb gardens, as well as chickens, goats, sheep, pigs, and cows. She has always been generous with her harvest and knowledge, and helps everyone she meets. She's a real treasure.

Last year, a close friend of two decades invited her to move to Washington State to co-own a beautiful farm together, so she retired from her teaching job, used her life savings to pack up her entire farm and family, and move from her rental into what she thought was her new forever home.

The dream was to have an active semi-retirement - establish a farm and educational center, teach farming, herbalism, earth-based spirituality, and more. She had already begun to establish community ties, and build a foundation for a good business creating and selling organic food and personal care products.

Check out her Facebook page to see some of what she's been doing:

Sadly, her friend decided after a year of Brita’s hard work and expectations of co-ownership that she wants the land to herself, and because she has all the legal rights, she very suddenly ordered Brita and her family to leave, giving them little warning or recourse, especially since Brita and her family had invested everything in the move and in establishing the new farm and business. They were left with few options. They searched for rentals in the area for weeks, but there were simply no rentals for a working farm, especially in their modest budget.

The situation is dire. If they can't find a farm and move into it by January 1st, they will have to give up all of their animals--which are like family to them, carefully bred and raised by hand with lots of love and great care--and will be effectively homeless.

Incredibly, they found a little family farm fixer-upper for sale nearby in a great area, well under market value, and their offer was accepted! They are currently in escrow, all the inspections are complete, and they now have loan approval pending a modest down payment of $7,000.

However, they don't have that $7,000, and if they can't get it by Christmas day, they will lose everything. Which is ridiculous, right? We can't let this happen. We will NOT let this happen.

As a retired teacher who has spent her life helping others, and who spent her savings moving her whole family and farm only to find out this was not to be, we want to save The Queen’s Ranch and make this happen.

$7,000 is a lot for one retired person, but not a lot of money if lots of people get involved. So let’s make this happen.

Please donate what you can - every dollar helps - and please SHARE this! The more people who see it, the more opportunities open up for people to help.
