In 2015, after four years of struggling through life-saving kidney dialysis, Greg Hasberry received a kidney from his living donor, Bob Kuykendall.
Following our challenging but successful recoveries, we were both left with a desire to do more; to somehow use the experience to motivate and inspire others to overcome their own struggles - mental, physical, emotional or spiritual in nature. In addition, of course, we hope to raise awareness of kidney disease, organ donation, and especially living organ donation.
Our stories are a little different, and our challenges came from different sources, but we both have a firm belief that God brought the individual struggles together, not only for the successful transplant, but for the newly combined fight we plan to carry out for you, and with you, as you face your own "mountains."
Our mountain will be a literal one, in fact the tallest freestanding mountain in the world, Mount Kilimanjaro.
“Mount Kilimanjaro is the world’s tallest freestanding mountain,” Kuykendall said . “We thought this would be a good way to get people’s attention in trying to raise awareness for organ donation. We wanted to be able to show people that we also have mountains to climb, and we are willing to climb an actual mountain to share that message."
As we work with businesses and social groups to reach others, we're coming to realize that funds are needed to organize and grow outreach. These funds are in addition to the cost of the actual Tanzania trip (flights, lodging, trek, gear, etc).
We believe this is becoming our legacy and we want to grow it to reach others, but we need help. Funds raised with be utilized directly with costs to grow this ministry and campaign, not received by any climber for personal use.
