Chris and Rachelle Motsinger are adopting!
After many prayers and research, they feel a tug in their hearts for Haiti. So far, they have chosen a faith-based adoption agency and been pre-approved for the Haiti program. They've filled out a mountain of paperwork, had meetings with social workers and undergone medical tests. *Phew!*
As we all know, international adoption costs are high, and Rachelle and Chris are stepping out in faith, knowing God will provide. If they adopt one child, the cost will be around $33,000, but if they adopt a sibling set, they are looking at upwards of $60,000. *Gulp*
What should you know about Haiti?
-Haiti is the poorest country in the western hemisphere.
-80% of the population lives in poverty.
-Children living in orphanages make up 7% of the population.
-Only 40% of the children attend elementary school and even fewer graduate high school.
-Haiti is 1/5th the size of Florida with 750 orphanages. That is more orphanages than there are McDonald's restaurants (728) in the state of Florida!
-Because Haiti is so underdeveloped, the adoption process takes longer than most countries, deterring families from adopting from here.
What does the timeline look like?
In following the adoption stories of other families adopting from Haiti, we know that this process can be long, with some families waiting more than four years, which seems like such a long time to wait on adding a child to your family, but not so long when you think about saving up such a large amount of money!
What can you do?
If you feel lead to give, all monies will go directly to the adoption fund. Any gift you can give is greatly appreciated and humbly accepted in this journey to give a sweet baby or two a loving family.
