This message comes from Andrews parents, Stephen and Myrtle.
In is with unimaginable sadness that we make this announcement, on the 6th July 2019 we lost our wonderful son.
That day Andrew embarked on a long anticipated climb to the summit of Tête de Bostan. On the descent, due to a change in weather and poor visibility, he made a wrong turn and suffered a fatal fall. As a family we cannot describe our sorrow and feeling of loss. We miss him constantly and think about him everyday.
For those who knew Andrew you will know about his energy and his charm- natural and effortless. He was mad about sport and at the peak of his physical fitness. You may also know that he was planning to complete this charity cycle event in order to raise money for his friend Freddo who was injured in a snowboarding accident. Freddo is in a wheelchair and learning to walk again. Andrew wanted to use his own legs to help Freddo get back on his.
We know Andrew will be gutted to miss this ride. To fulfill his challenge, our family, along with some of his Morzine friends, will be completing the ride in his honour.
We are starting in Barcelona on the 16th September and giving ourselves 6 days (not 48 hours!) aiming to finish in Morzine on the 20th September. We will be continuing to raise money for Freddo and adding a second beneficiary, the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust who helped us bring Andrew home. Any donations would be welcome, please support us if you can.
We will be hosting a party on Saturday the 21st September in Morzine to celebrate Andrews challenge and Andrews life. Details will follow soon.
