WHO WE ARE:
We are Moon Tiger.
In 2014 Moon Tiger began as therapeutic musical sessions of “divine fucking around” by founding members Alison Cohn (Ether), Alicia J. Rose (Miss Murgatroid), and Meagan Schreiber. A power trio for a brief spell, the lush combination of drums, accordion, guitar, and three-part harmony vocals soon called for further adornment. Super talented multi-instrumentalist Taylor Hill joined the band as bassist and drummer just in time for our first show. He brought a grace and power to our songs that made Moon Tiger better. With a bunch of live performances under our belt and this enhanced lineup, we recorded our first self-titled EP in 2016. Moon Tiger featured four songs, including the breakout tune Sweaty Bangs, which was selected for the PDX Pop NOW comp in 2017, and helped put us on the Portland map.
As a four piece, three of us tigers would share the duties of drumming, and though it was fun to switch instruments during live shows, it soon became clear that if we could find the drummer of our dreams, Moon Tiger would have a more powerful sonic foundation. Enter Shawna Gore. We were wildly fortunate to have this creative and skilled drummer (Captain Vs. Crew, Animal Throat) join the band in early 2017. Since then we have been performing and writing together as a five piece, and our new songs have a supernatural depth and heightened vibe. We’re excited to get into the studio to record, so we can share our hard work and rad new music with you!
WHAT WE’RE DOING:
The New EP
We have five new songs to record—three brand new ones written with our current lineup, and two written previously that have become tighter and more realized with a fuller band sound.
These will be the first recordings of each of these songs.
Punk rock dreamboat Hutch Harris (The Thermals) has come on board to produce these new Moon Tiger tracks, which will be engineered by the wonderful Victor Nash at Destination Universe Studio. We feel so fortunate to have these two brilliant people at the helm of this EP.
We will be recording the first weekend of April, mixing soon after and releasing the EP in June. We will celebrate with a record release show in mid-June at Doug Fir Lounge!
