Monologues For The Homeless (M4TH)

Hello!

My name is Tommy, and I’ve lived without a home. I don’t know if you’ve met others who have experienced being homeless, or if you’ve experienced being homeless, but having your existence ignored is truly one of the worst feelings you can ever endure.

Empathy for those struggling drives me to pursue this project. It’s not meant to directly solve the problem of people losing their homes, but it aims to encourage those who are smarter than me, and armed with more resources than me, to step forward and find solutions.

I'll be performing monologues on street corners here in Chicago to help raise money for those in need. You may have seen me holding a sign with a link to this website! If you are able to donate, your resources will be put to great use. For example your money will go towards paying for a motel, transit cards, food, new clothes, laundry money, etc. No money donated here will be given directly. All proceeds will be used to purchase goods or services to actually help someone experiencing homelessness become more self sufficient. I'm not a social worker, but I'm trying to partner with some. This is just the start, so I'm learning, and looking forward to figuring out how best to connect the people I'm trying to help with the longer term resources they need.

Each person's story will be shared via updates, and I'll do my best to try to post regularly.

Why $63,179? This is the median income of the average American in a year. I'm hoping to help as many people as I can in a year and thought this is as good a goal as any.
