Monica's Hope 4 Cancer

Dear friends and family.  I am reaching out to you to ask you for your support and help in raising funds to cover the costs of a non-toxic cancer treatment in Tijuana, Mexico.  Below is a brief history of my battle with this horrible disease.

We moved to New Jersey from Medellin, Colombia when I was 10 and I have called this place home ever since.  Englewood is the town where I went to school; it’s where the house that my brother and sisters grew up in still sits; it’s the place that I mourned when I left to serve our country for 7 years and it’s where I returned to after military service; it’s where I formed my strongest ties and my deepest friendships.  This is where I grew up...and it's the place where I want to grow old.

My journey with cancer began 9 years ago when I noticed a small lump on my breast.  It was then when I began my very first round of treatments - the conventional western practices which most of you know as chemotherapy and radiation.

It was a scary time in my life - my marriage was young, I had a brand new infant that needed 100% of me - but we remained strong and confident that I would receive the necessary therapies and then it would be over and behind us.

Two years later, in 2010, I sat in front of my doctor and was told that the cancer had metastasized to other parts of my body - this time, it was in my bones.  Again I followed the protocol - more chemo, more radiation, more surgery.

Together with my family and my friends, we held on to hope, we stayed faithful and we prayed.

Another 2 years passed, and in 2012 I began experiencing light headaches and a loss of balance. My thoughts were racing - how could this be happening to me, to my family?  The tests that followed confirmed that the cancer made its way into the left side of my brain.  More surgery, more radiation.  Three years after that, in 2015, it was the right side of my brain which was affected..

In 2016, I underwent a series of treatments and procedures to finally get this beat and while there are the obvious benefits of modern day medicine, the side effects took a devastating toll on my body which I am still trying to manage through today.

This has been cycle...my daily fight for the last 9 years.  I've been in and out of doctors' offices, I've been poked with endless hands, I've been prodded with too many needles to count, I hold my breath every single time I'm due for a follow up.

And so here we are now in 2017, and I'm still battling, hoping to catch a break and live long enough to see all the things I’ve yet to see.

To get my wish, I have decided to try something not so conventional, something different...and I am asking for whatever assistance you can extend to help get me there.  The conventional methods have not worked for me and after nine years of the same, I’ve researched some alternative methods of healing and decided to try a clinic in Tijuana with a different approach to cancer.

The treatment is far and it’s expensive but I am hopeful that this approach will make a difference in my body’s ability to heal itself.  After all, what do I have to lose, right?

The link below will take you to where you can make a donation.  I thank you in advance for anything you can give - any amount will get me closer to the goal I need to get the necessary care I need:

Lastly, please know my family and I remain grateful and humbled by everyone's never ending  love and support throughout the years. There are no words that could even come close to expressing the appreciation we feel for each and every one of you.
