Fundraising for Isla & family

Isla Tansey was born on 1st May 2011 despite aspirating on meconium during birth and becoming very poorly very quickly she pulled through. Doctors then discovered Isla had holes in her heart. Isla proved to be a tough little cookie, recovering and growing to be a fit, active, clever, funny , caring little girl the same as all of her friends. Her family were so relieved when she was discharged from hospital and was able to live her live like any other active, happy little girl.

However, this was too short lived as on the 12th August 2017 Isla was admitted to hospital due to suddenly losing all feeling and use of her legs and suffering intense pain.  Devastatingly,  MRI scans revealed that Isla has a rare aggressive brain tumour which had progressed to the cervical spine. Isla has already been through so much in her short life and to have this diagnosis is heartbreaking for all the family and friends.

Isla has been bed bound since 13th February 2018 and is on strong medication to manage the pain which increases as the cancer progresses. Despite taking a tremendous toll on parents, Kat and Si and Isla’s big brother Harrison, have all been a tower of strength and their positivity is inspiring.

Devastatingly the latest MRI scan showed that the tumour had progressed further and there was nothing more they could offer her treatment wise.
Isla is now palliative and her parents have been informed that she may not have much time left.

Isla came home and had more fun days before becoming very unwell quite quickly. She has commenced support from the community nursing teams, her GP and Rainbows.

Despite chronic pain in her neck, visual changes along with nausea, vomiting and side effects of medications as well as this horrible disease Isla is able to smile and laugh with her family and friends. She is a true star.  The family have been making memories and have experienced so many special days in her room at home where she loves to be the most.

I have known Isla’s mum, Kat since high school. We have stayed friends ever since and our daughters are the same age. Two years ago Isla and my daughter were running around happy without a care in the world.  It is very hard to see Isla in such pain and to see the distress in her families eyes and hearts but this little girl is keeping everyone going. Isla’s amazing brother, cousins and friends have also been an amazing support and continue to make Isla smile.

The aim now is to make Isla as comfortable and to make each moment with her as magical as possible. Kat and Si have remained positive through this heartbreaking time and are determined to make some beautiful memories with the time they have left with their beloved daughter. Both have stopped working to care for Isla and there are increasing financial demands on the family in terms of Isla’s ongoing needs.

The #islastones group has been such an amazing thing for making memories, bringing people together, raising awareness and most importantly bringing  joy and smiles to Isla’s face .

Life is precious, let’s help make every moment Isla has left with her family precious and full of joy that will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
