Mona's Medical Mystery

In November of 2015 my best friend Mona began to experience discomfort in her eyes which, after numerous trips to doctors and multiple misdiagnoses, had manifested itself as a painful and damaging iritis in both eyes. The symptoms had become quite severe by this time, resulting in some scarring before a proper diagnosis of the symptoms could begin to effectively treat these issues.
Over the following year the iritis continued to flare up while the source of the inflammation remained a mystery, treating the symptoms without ever getting to the source of the problem and wreaking havoc on Mona’s strained budget with exorbitant medical bills. Assumed to be an autoimmune disease, the condition jeopardizes Mona’s eyesight, both temporarily due to medication affecting her vision as well as the potential to cause permanent damage, and is also suspected to be contributing to a host of intestinal issues recently causing her to lose an unhealthy amount of weight.
This has been a painstaking year for Mona, the stress of an unsolved medical issue plaguing her health and vision combined with the financial strain and a host of other personal issues has proven intensely difficult to bear. The results of the latest biopsy, received on December 21st, proved inconclusive and the mystery continues.
We ask for just enough funds to cover the out-of-pocket costs of treatment for this coming year in order to ease the immense financial burden this has placed on her. This will amount to $6,000, much of which has already been billed for prior procedures and damage-preventing treatment with more on the way. The urgent nature of these incurred expenses, which Mona currently does not have the means to pay, has forced our hand to raise funds through this GoFundMe campaign.
Mona is an adorable, fun-loving, 26-year-old geek: bubbly, hyper, and happy. She loves her playful puppy, Kiku, who demands constant affection and snuggles. Mona isn't afraid to get her hands dirty in outdoor activities, but also enjoys quiet nights at home with books, music, and video games. She’s a wonderful artist, owning sketchbooks filled with her beautiful work and Mona’s own marvelous paintings adorning her walls.
Facing hardships in life has made Mona wise beyond her years and exceptionally compassionate towards her fellow man. Mona pays forward any generosity shown her every day through her kindness. Her friends are her world, her devotion unparalleled as she would do anything for them, and in kind we will move the world to help Mona in her time of need.
I cherish Mona’s friendship with all my heart; she’s a beautiful soul, fiercely loyal and kind to all around her, and she deserves peace of mind free of worry about whether she can afford to remain healthy.
