Mom's Alive Inside

A familiar song can make a big difference. There’s no known cure for dementia. However, nostalgic music awakens the deepest parts of the brain, giving people access to happy memories—reminding them, and their loved ones, that they are still alive inside.
My mom Bettie Harrison lives in Brandywine Nursing Home in Greenfield, Indiana. She has dementia, Fronto-Temporal dementia to be exact. She loves The Beatles, Rolling Stones, and Queen just to name a few. When her favorite music fills her room, you can see quite a change in her. Mom barely speaks, does not move most of time until her favorite music is on. She smiles and pats her feet! It's almost like she "wakes up" a little inside.
There is no greater loneliness than being cut off from the world, and no better feeling than waking another human being! After watching the documentary "Alive Inside", I want to help Mom's fellow resident's "wake up" too. I am asking for your help in getting the rest of my mom's dementia unit get personal listening devices. Music is the way we share with each other, without words, the wisdom of being alive! These listening devices will be downloaded with each residents favorite music for them to enjoy! Will you help? Please donate anything you can. This will be dedicated to my mom. I LOVE HER SO MUCH!
