Help Molly Battle Breast Cancer
We are starting this campaign on behalf of our loving Mother, Molly Brown, age 59. Our mother was recently diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer. We know this is going to be a long tough road ahead for Molly, our family, and her friends, but we know how strong our Mother is and we will get through this as a family.
This week we received the results of her PET scan and all of our fears came true: she has Inflammatory Invasive Ductal Carcinoma, grade 3. This is a rare and very aggressive form of breast cancer that blocks lymph vessels in the skin of the breast. Luckily, the cancer has not spread to any major organs as of yet; however, the cancer has spread to a couple of lymph nodes surrounding the breast. With this aggressive type of cancer the doctors are wanting to act quickly and she will undergo her first chemo treatment next week, beyond that they are recommending 10-12 months of treatment.
During that time she will need to undergo at least 6 months of chemo, then aggressive surgery that includes a mastectomy followed by radiation treatments. Once all of that is complete the doctors can then approach reconstructive surgery 1-2 years later. As many of you are aware, medical costs can be expensive, even with insurance. Molly unfortunately has used up her PTO for the year, so she will have to take unpaid time off when she does her treatment, and she will not qualify for any type of short term disability nor does she have savings. To top that, Molly's yearly deductible is $5500, which will start over again in a few short months. This will make it difficult for her to pay her living expenses and afford to buy food to eat.
She raised the two of us all on her own and did the best she could to make ends meet being a single mother of two, and then went on to help us through college. She has always been such a hard worker, from working on her father's farm showing horses, driving a big rig, working on construction sites, selling insurance, and now working at a casino as a pit supervisor. Everyone loves our mother and she touches the heart of many people's lives. Her smile radiates throughout the room whenever she is happy, and she always is a loving, caring and compassionate person. She has always been there for us and showed us so much love and support. Now we are trying to support her not only emotionally, but financially as well. We are asking for contributions to help our Mother in this great time of need; if you are able to spare anything it would be greatly appreciated.
