Moe Concussion and Chiari Fund

Bree suffered her first traumatic brain injury (TBI) in high school while playing basketball. Years later, she suffered another TBI when she was involved in a high speed rollover car accident. These brain injuries have set her on a journey with debilitating symptoms ( and uncertainty.
Currently, her dizziness prevents her from sitting upright or standing for more than a minute or two at a time before the lack of stability overwhelms her and she is forced to lie down in bed. Even simple eye and head movements exacerbate her symptoms. This means she is unable to care for herself on a daily basis without assistance. She is obviously unable to drive, and is confined to her bed for 90% of each day.
Her neurosurgeon, Dr. Robert Bray Jr., believes that the cause is a Chiari Malformation where the brain is pushed down onto the base of the skull. The treatment for this is a decompression surgery. In this surgery, the goal is to open up her skull and the lining that surrounds the brain and create more space for the brain to sit in the skull.
Although the idea of brain surgery is scary, we are poised to move forward to give Bree her life back. We are hoping to have the surgery done this summer, and need help. Between health insurance premiums, deductibles and out of pocket expenses for the MRIs, doctor's appointments and the surgery, we will not be able to cover her medical expenses.
In addition, we want to help others that are going through the same and similar situation. We are hoping to be able to raise money above and beyond what we need to help other families in need and to further concussion and brain health awareness and research.
We are organizing a series of hike/runs to major mountain peaks in Southern California, and Greg will be attempting to set a record for the fastest run and bike to the 3 highest peaks in Southern California in the Fall to raise awareness for our cause.
