Bring Light & Hope to Those in Need

In August, a team of linemen and engineers from electric cooperatives across Missouri will volunteer their time and lend their skills to bring electricity to two communities in Bolivia that desperately need it.   Access to safe, affordable, and reliable energy is vital to ending extreme poverty, improving education, and advancing wellness and health.

With your help, these linemen will make it possible to also provide internal house lights to many of the families, making it possible for children to read and study at night.

This important project will provide life-changing electricity to Dos de Junio and El Torito, both located in the Amazon Basin in northern Bolivia. Many will have access to electricity for the first time.

“Living without light is like being blind,” said Ana Maria Escobar, a member of the Dos de Junio community in Bolivia.

Like Ana Maria, families in her community live in wooden houses that have dirt floors and deep water wells in the back dug far too close to the latrines.

With safe, reliable and affordable electricity, the children will be able to read at night, the standard of living will improve for the families, and all will have access to clean water and improved healthcare.

Working with the NRECA International Foundation, the Missouri volunteers will build approximately 10 miles of line, erect 250 power poles, and bring electricity to more than 360 families. This will be an invaluable experience for the volunteers, and also serve as a reminder of when Missouri co-ops first brought electricity to the rural communities here at home. Just as it did for rural communities in middle America more than 70 years ago, electricity will profoundly improve the lives of the residents in Dos de Junio and El Torito. We are running this campaign for 60 days. When we send the linemen in August, we hope to raise $5000 to help provide power to many for the first time. Thank you for being part of this journey!
