Help our brother firefighter!

Help a dad of five kids, current volunteer firefighter and former Marine take care of his wife, who recently had a significant stroke.

At age 36, Kelly Dohmen suffered a serious stroke and is presently stable, but in critical care.  Earlier this year, Kelly had a heart valve replaced due to damage caused by an illness during her childhood. Unknown to Kelly and her doctors, the new valve became infected and a piece of the infection broke off and went to Kelly’s neck, blocking blood flow to the left side of her brain. The neurosurgeon said there are only 3% of blocks that he has not been able to clear and Kelly’s was one of those 3%.  While the stroke area has stabilized, Kelly’s health is still on edge for the next month or two. The heart valve needs replaced, but Kelly is way too weak to undergo the surgery. Antibiotics are not working on the infection, so at any time, another piece of infection could break off and move to Kelly’s brain, causing even more damage – or worse.  Brad, Kelly’s husband of 15 years, has been doing double duty, being at her bedside, but also trying to spend time with their 5 kids (youngest being 4 year old twins) to keep their lives as normal as possible.

Kelly is a strong person and loving mother, but she is going to need very long term medical and rehabilitation care.  Bills are going to start piling up.  Kelly was working before her stroke and her ability to return to work won’t be known for months. So, that income is gone. Brad has some time he is able to take off from his full time job as a truck driver for a construction company, but that leave is limited and he needs to work to pay the bills.  On top of losing present and future income, with a very long road to recovery, medical bills are going to take their toll.

We want to raise funds for Brad and Kelly just to try and keep their heads above water. Kelly needs to concentrate all of her strength on getting better. Brad needs to concentrate on Kelly and taking care of the kids. Brad is already doing what he can to cut expenses. We don’t want them to have to stress over finances such as paying the mortgage and simple bills, feeding and caring for 5 children, day care for the twins, and any future medical bills that will be coming in.

If you can’t afford a monetary donation, we simply ask for your prayers for Kelly!
