Launching Moves MLDP is an exciting, long awaited opportunity to explore, express and create my own artistic work. I started choreographing back in 2006, while a member of PHILADANCO, but fear closed that door quickly. In 2011 I put the Choreographer's hat back on and have been continuing my growth since. I had to learn who I was! That knowledge and understanding built the confidence which now drives me forward. I have a voice. That was reassured when I got the opportunity to choreograph for the TV One "One Christmas" program which taped on my 34th birthday right after losing my full-time stable management position less than 30 days prior. During the 2014-2015 season I was fortunate to plant my foot into Higher Education with choreography at both Georgetown University and Howard University.
My upcoming participation in the 2016 Atlas INTERSECTIONS Festival is a great opportunity to develop a full length, 60 minute performance and expand my artistry to the greater Washington DC community. Intersections is a multi-disciplinary arts festival that highlights emerging and established, local and national artists under the theme, "Where the Art World and Real World Intersect."
As I plan and look over the logistics of developing this show, I am noticing that in order to make this happen I will need support from you. I'm fortunate to have volunteer help with many production elements, but so much more is needed. Artist fees, rehearsal space, costumes, music and production elements are just a few. Friends, family, supporters of the arts and future supporters of MOVE: The Maverick Lemons Dance Project. I am asking for your help. Please support with a donation of any size and a ticket purchase for the February 27th show at 1:30pm this 2016. Any amount can help! Your donations will allow me to bring class act dance theater to the DC community, as well as build a strong foundation for artistic growth. This show is a big step in my career and I want to do the absolute best job possible.
