Operation Brown Bag Lunch
Donation protected
A big pickup truck recently went out of control and crashed into our kitchen at Gateway Rescue Mission, killing one of "ours", a little fella we affectionately called Scrappy. The crash also demolished the entire serving line and our kitchen will be out of commission for several weeks. While insurance and generous donors will defray most of the costs of reconstruction, we face the huge task of feeding people right now without being able to cook or reheat food.
Therefore, we've launched Operation Brown Bag Lunch, AND THAT'S WHERE WE NEED YOUR HELP !! We're making sandwich bags by the hundreds each day. Each bag contains a sandwich, chips, a cookie, and a bottle of water. We estimate it will take about two months before the kitchen reopens, so we'll be making thousands of sandwich bags in the coming weeks. We figure it will cost about $5.00 per bag, by the time you buy lunch meat like ham and turkey, single bag potato chips, condiments, bottled water, etc. (plus paper bags)
Many people have asked "what do you need?" Frankly, we money to buy the food for Operation Brown Bag Lunch. Yes, we've got plenty of food in the freezer, but we can't cook it. You can make a difference today. For example, we figure $50 bucks will cover about 10 lunch bags.
A big Ford F150 crashing through our kitchen is not a scenario we envisioned. But we'll building back stronger and will reopen a better, more modern kitchen in a few weeks. You can be a part of helping us turn a tragedy into something good by giving to Operation Brown Bag Lunch at Gateway Rescue Mission.
