Many of you know my brother in law, MJ Held. He is 42 years old and has been happily married to his high school sweetheart Kerrie for 18 years. They have 2 children, Madyson who is 14 years old and Michael who is 9.
In a blink of an eye, everything can change. In June, MJ had pains in the abdominal area and thought it might be something like gallbladder issues. He ended up in the hospital. As his white blood cell counts continued to rise, surgery was done to remove a hematoma that was attached to the liver. Then we all received a slap in the face . . .CANCER! How could this be? His stomach, liver, kidneys, lungs, bones, and brain look great! MJ has been diagnosed with non primary source cancer or CUP. Less than 10% of the population have this type of cancer. One of the main issues is that they cannot determine where the cancer has started so treating it becomes more complicated. His information has been sent to a national lab and we are still waiting for answers for a match for chemo treatment that will hopefully come. The PET scan showed cancer cells in his abdomen area and in a lymph node. He is schedule to have his chemo port placed on Monday, July 3rd. We are hoping to get him to the Mayo Clinic for a second opinion but he is weak and unsure about traveling that distance. If Chemo is started in Green Bay, he needs to wait until 2 rounds of chemo has been completed before he can be seen at Mayo. MJ will beat this Stage 4 cancer!
On top of his focus on recovering from major surgery and processing the news about cancer, MJ has not been at work since June 7th. Money raised from this Go Fund Me Account will help assist with doctor bills, insurance co-pays, travel costs and lost wages.
