Mi Tiny Solar Home

$15,000 goal

Campaign created 5 months ago
This is a photo of a large Solar Electric System I recently helped to install in Grass Lake Mi.

Our new company will be called; Mi Tiny Solar Home, we will be building Tiny Solar Heated and Powered Homes made from recycled Shipping Containers. This will benefit so many people,  from first time home owners who need an affordable solution to high home prices, to Senior Citizens who want to be independent but are on a limited budget.

These funds will be used 100% for the start up of the company and building of the first model home that I have designed using my knowledge of Passive Solar Home Architecture from my Degree at Lansing Community College. My design is unlike any others, game changing, and simple. Of course I am willing to discuss a good ROI for any investors as well.

This funding will help me to complete my dream of building affordable, sustainable, green friendly homes, that will benefit a wide range of people who need affordable housing.

I will be forever grateful of anyone who donates to this wonderful project and know that we can make it work to the benifit of communities accross this wonderful USA!

MI Tiny Solar Home L.L.C.

1.0 Executive Summary

The MI Tiny Solar Home mission is to provide exceptional, unique, and affordable housing that is individualized to meet the needs of each client. We are poised to take advantage of the Tiny Home movement that is rapidly growing across the USA and the rest of the world.

1.1 The Products and Services

Primary operations of the business will be designing, building, and selling Tiny (160-400sq ft) Solar Powered Homes. These homes will either be on wheels that can be towed with a pick-up truck or on a permanent foundation.

1.2 Industry/Opportunity

The Tiny Home and Solar Energy market is exploding as consumers seek affordable, Eco-friendly alternatives. Tiny home communities are popping up in major cities around the country like Detroit, and Tiny Home companies like Tumbleweed in Colorado, and Great Lakes Tiny Homes in Midland Mi, have experienced a lot of demand and growth. Growth is projected to continue exponentially as communities revise ordinances and allow smaller dwellings to accommodate increased affordable housing needs.

1.3 Target Market

The Tiny Home movement is growing very fast with millions of people looking to simplify their life, lower their cost of living, and reduce their impact on the environment. Two distinct groups are driving most of this movement. One is the Baby Boomers: This group is looking to downsize, reduce monthly expenses, and check off their bucket list. Benefits that appeal to Baby Boomers are low price, low maintenance, and portability (Home can double as an RV). The other group is the Millennials: This group grew up during the 2008 housing crisis and see Tiny Homes as a way to escape the “Rat Race” and avoid the potential pitfalls of a big mortgage on a house. They are also more concerned about the environment and living Eco-friendly. Tiny Homes fit right in with their lifestyles because of the low price, small carbon footprint, portability, and simplicity of living they provide.

1.4 Management

Craig Elliott is the designer, builder, and manager of the company. Craig has a degree from Lansing Community College in Architecture and Solar Technology and has been a lifelong entrepreneur having started and operated several successful companies over the last 30 years. The Small Business Development Center's Flint office is partnering with Craig to ensure the business's success. Craig also currently works with David Hollens, owner of New Energy Solutions, installing Solar Systems for residential homes and businesses in Michigan, and as a licensed Insurance Agent, Craig owns and operates ABC Insurance Financial and Retirement Planning.

1.5 Key Strategy Differentiation

Our unique design and build process utilizing shipping containers and Quonset Huts will allow us to build our Tiny Homes much faster and at less cost than traditionally built Tiny Homes that the few competitors are building. In addition, incorporating Passive Solar Heating and Solar Electric into the design concept is unique to the industry and will give Mi Tiny Solar Home a huge advantage in the market.

1.6 Long Term Strategy

Expand into the market of developing and building Solar Powered Tiny Home Communities to offer affordable housing where it is needed in Detroit and many other communities across Michigan. Begin to offer larger sized Solar Powered homes using Quonset Hut structures and Earth Sheltered structural concrete panel construction.

1.7 Financing

Start up Capital needs are estimated at $135,000, to be used for legal, local/state permitting, marketing, and tools and materials to build the first 3 homes: one for a demo model and two for sale. A Go Fund Me account has been started with a goal of raising $15,000 and we are seeking lenders, investors, and potential partners for the remaining funding needs.

1.8 Sales Forecasts

First year sales are expected to be 12-15 units with a profit margin of $15,000 - $20,000 per unit.
Sales are expected to double in the second and again in the third year as we begin to be recognized as having the best value and top rated designs on the market. As we begin to expand our marketing strategies and expand into the development and building of Solar Powered Tiny Home Communities and larger sized homes across the USA, the sales potential is almost limitless.
