Mitchell Celaya's Medical Fund

Mitchell Celaya lV is an Eagle Scout, loyal son, caring brother and exceptional friend and co-worker. Mitchell has excelled at various sports and scholastic endeavors throughout his life, and after a productive and vital role working for City of Fremont's Human Services Department, Youth & Family Services Division, he was preparing to begin his masters degree in Linguistics at San Diego State University this fall.

Unfortunately, on Wednesday, July 5th, Mitchell and his mother were returning from a dinner with friends when their car was struck by a drunk driver. Mitchell was ejected from the vehicle and sustained major internal injuries and some fractures. After two surgeries, Mitchell has regained consciousness and made remarkable progress given the extent of his injuries and we are cautiously optimistic that he will be able to fully recover from this horrific, unfair accident.

Mitchell has worked for City of Fremont Human Services Department, Youth & Family Services (YFS) Division since 2013. He started as a dedicated full-time volunteer after graduating from University of California, San Diego with a degree in Cognitive Science. Mitchell volunteered for both Youth & Family Services and the Fremont Family Resource Center where he was a Certified Covered California Enrollment Counselor helping community members gain health insurance. Mitchell was hired as Public Services Assistant in early 2015 and since that time has worked at the front counter of Youth & Family Services helping serve the public, registering clients for services, triaging clinical intake and crisis calls.

He is an integral part of the administrative team providing core support for a mental health counseling clinic and team that serves kids and families in the public schools, Fremont Police Department and the community. He has taken on many intensive assignments involving confidential client data and records, as well as special department projects. Additionally, Mitchell helped Fremont’s Human Relations Commission and the Human Services Department plan and prepare for the City's participation in the San Francisco Pride Parade each year.

Mitchell's colleagues know him as the guy who is passionate about languages and the writer of the YFS "word of the day" in Farsi, Arabic or another international language on the clinic whiteboard. Staff also know Mitchell as the caring person who does random acts of kindness helping others, including strangers who are in need.

Due to his current state, he will be in the Intensive Care Unit at Highland Hospital in Oakland for a few more days before being moved and able to accept visitors. Mitchell has been surrounded by friends and family who have provided much love and support, but as he embarks on his long road to recovery he will need as much help as possible. Any contribution you can make to Mitchell's medical emergency fund will be greatly appreciated and will go towards supplementing numerous medical and legal bills as the he begins rehabilitation, physical therapy and gets back to school.

The days ahead are sure to be filled with uncertainty and worry, but by easing some of the financial burden, you can ensure that Mitchell's arduous recovery is as swift and efficient as possible. We ask you to support Mitchell and contribute towards his healing, his health care premiums, medical bills and his future. He needs us now more then ever. Mitchell's family and close friends Thank your support.
