Missy's spinal surgery

Hello everyone, for those who do not know me, my name is Brittany and I'm starting this gofundme page for my mom and our dog Missy. On Sunday, 3/19/17 my mom started her day like any other walking the dogs outside to later finding Missy, our beloved 4.5 year old cocker spaniel, collapse and lose function of the lower half of her body. She was rushed to the vet to find she had a spinal herniation and her only options would be to get a surgery to hopefully fix her spine or to euthanize her due to quality of life from living with the pain. For a young, once active, and happy dog, euthanization was not considered for us even after finding out the base of the surgery would be a minimum of $5000, which we simply do not have out of pocket. We were awarded a $4,500 credit limit on our vet credit card, with money already sky high from previous vet occurrences, and already living with a tight income. Needless to say we accepted that it is not possible to come up with this money on the spot but we will have to make cuts from our lives in order to scrape up what we can to get Missy the care she needed. From here my mom scheduled the surgery for Wednesday because waiting too long could be vital. Little did we know waiting even 24 hours increased the prognosis by a long shot. To make a long story short, Missy's condition escalated, she was completely paralyzed on the lower half and fell into agonizing pain, thrashing around uncontrollably. When I tried to help her into a comfortable position, she began aggressively biting my arm and hand from her severe pain. Mind you, this is a dog who never in her life has shown aggression, I don't think I've heard her even growl once in her life. From here we did our best to secure her into the car and rush her to the vet where essentially an emergency surgery needed to take place as soon as the neurosurgeon arrived in the morning. Which brings us to current time. After getting in from a night from hell at the vet and emergency room, we got back home at 5am this morning, 3/21/17, Missy is currently in her emergency surgery. Her 95% recovery rate has dropped to 50%, and the price of the surgery and tests is currently $8,000-$10,000 on top of the other accumulated vet bills. If she is lucky and makes at least an almost full recovery, we will already have to make changes to hers and our lifestyle, on the other hand we are looking at a dog wheelchair, and permanent paralyzation of our once active and happy pup. Last night we were faced with an ultimatum, get the surgery and find some way to come up with most likely $10,000 by Friday or Saturday when we will God willing be able to take her home, or have her get put down. There's no other way to say it other than we do not have the money but we could not accept being euthanized as an option. We did not have time weigh the costs and bit the bullet to do whatever was needed to save her life. You may wonder why would we accept this surgery knowing we simply don't have it? Well because we are willing to put ourselves in debt to keep our baby with us. She's not a 16 year old dog who has lived a full life, she's an energetic and lovable 4.5 year old who in our eyes is still a baby we unintentionally stumbled upon and rescued from the aspca just about 4 years ago. I can tell you that the money my mom has living paycheck to paycheck, all of my savings I have to give, and the credit limits are still not enough and that is with the hope that she recovers with leg function. I can't even begin to think about what it's going to cost if we have to wheelchair and restrain her for the rest of her life. As an avid supporter of adopt don't shop, supporting many dog/animal charities and groups, I can only pray we can get even a little support from anyone who is willing. If you have even $5 to spare every single cent makes a difference to our lives and Missy's. When donating to support groups I consider $5 to be equivalent to two coffees, something I buy every day. If I can give up two cups of coffee to make even the slightest difference in another person or animals life, then why not. My family is already giving up that much and more for our Missy. I'm not asking to get the entire $10,000 covered, I can't imagine it would reach enough people for that anyway, if we can even cut a couple thousand from our burden it will make all the difference for us. It's going to be a very rough time for us and we appreciate all of the help and support. If you've made it with me through the end of this, I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart for even as much as sharing this page to support us and for any donations we receive.
