Missoula Children's Theater

Donation protected
The Missoula Children's Theatre (MCT) is the nation’s largest touring children’s theatre and has been touring extensively for more than 40 years from Montana to Japan. This year, they will visit nearly 1,200 communities with up to 44 teams of Tour Directors.

Missoula Children’s Theatre has been coming to Stillwater for about 10 years. They send two energetic and well-trained directors with all of the costumes and the set, ready to cast about 60 local students entering 1st-12th grades in a full-length musical. This popular week-long theater camp holds auditions on a Monday, practices all week, then culminates with two public performances on that Saturday, attended by over 400 people. Because this program is provided free of charge to participating children, it extends benefits to several students who do not have the financial resources to participate in other theater camps. This year’s production is based on “Gulliver’s Travels” and will be held on July 23-28, 2018, at the Stillwater Community Center. In addition, there are three drama workshops open the public to expand the reach to even more children in the community. This program is designed to develop the personal and professional skills and goals of the participants.

Funding for this program was cut from the City budget in recent years. A few community members have stepped up to raise funds to keep this engaging program coming to Stillwater. The Stillwater Community Center Foundation,  a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, is accepting donations to fund these programs. Would you please consider making a tax deductible donation to keep this valuable program going?

How much should I give?
This theater camp is a great introduction to the theater arts and is offered FREE OF CHARGE to the cast. The cost is about $100/child and provides a huge return of investment in the lives of our local kids. Please consider sponsoring a child or several! Give ANY amount you can!

Does this count as a tax-deductible donation?
YES! All donations on this site will go to the Stillwater Community Center Foundation. Donors will receive acknowledgement letters for tax purposes.

When will it happen?
Auditions for this year's production of "Gulliver's Travels" will be Monday July 23rd with rehearsals July 23rd-27th, and two public performances on Sat July 28th.

How does the MCT program work?
A tour team will arrive in Stillwater with a set, lights, costumes, props and make-up, everything it takes to put on a play...except the cast. The team holds an open audition and casts 50-60 local students to perform in the production. The show is rehearsed throughout the week and two public performances are presented on Saturday. All MCT shows are original adaptations of classic children’s stories and fairytales . . . a twist on the classic stories that you know and love. The residency also includes three enrichment workshops presented by the Tour Directors. These workshops are independent of the performance and cover general topics such as stage makeup and improvisation. Participating children learn creativity, social skills, goal achievement, communication, and self-esteem through this unique, educational project. MCT's mission is the development of life skills in children through participation in the performing arts.
